The people gather as Ezra reads the Law publicly, and they listen attentively from morning until midday. Convicted by God's Word, they begin to weep, but Nehemiah and Ezra encourage them to celebrate instead, reminding them that "the joy of the Lord is your strength." The chapter concludes with the people joyfully observing the Feast of Booths, rediscovering practices that had been neglected for generations.
God's Word is meant not only to convict us but to restore and strengthen us. True joy is found when we hear His voice, obey His commands, and celebrate His faithfulness.
