As Ezra prepares to depart Jerusalem, he and the people gather at the Ahava Canal for three days of fasting and prayer, seeking God’s protection for their families and possessions on the journey ahead. Ezra explains, “I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, ‘The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.’” God faithfully answered His people’s prayers and granted them protection as they traveled. When challenges arise, we too can turn to the Lord in confidence, knowing that He faithfully watches over His people.
