Under king Artaxerxes, Ezra prepares to lead another group of exiles to Jerusalem. “Ezra … was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.” Not only did the king give his blessing to teach God’s laws, but he also empowered Ezra to “appoint magistrates and judges to administer justice to all the people …” As the chapter concludes, Ezra praises God for moving the king’s heart to support the Jewish people. May we recognize when God works through people and events, pouring out His favor upon us, and accomplishing His purposes.
