Romans 1 introduces Paul’s desire to preach the gospel in Rome and declares that the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. Paul explains that God has revealed Himself clearly through creation, leaving humanity without excuse for rejecting Him. Because people exchanged the truth of God for lies and worshiped created things instead of the Creator, God gave them over to the consequences of their sinful desires and hardened hearts.

God’s judgment often begins by allowing people to experience the natural consequences of rejecting Him, reminding us that sin never leads to freedom. At the same time, this chapter magnifies the beauty of the gospel, because no matter how dark humanity becomes, God's power to save is greater.
