Proverbs 7 tells the story of a young man who lacks wisdom and gradually places himself in a situation where he becomes vulnerable to sexual temptation. The seductive woman persuades him through flattering words until he follows her, unaware of the destruction toward which his decision is leading him. The chapter warns that the wise person does not merely resist temptation at the final moment but avoids the path that leads toward it.

Many spiritual failures begin long before the actual sinful decision because we repeatedly put ourselves near something we know is dangerous. Wisdom does not ask, “How close can I get without sinning?” but instead chooses a path that keeps our hearts far from unnecessary temptation.
