Manasseh succeeded his father Hezekiah as king of Judah. Unlike his father, Manasseh led the nation astray through profound evil and wicked practices. “He sacrificed his children in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced divination and witchcraft, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists.” As a result, God handed Manasseh over to the king of Assyria. Brought to a place of utter distress, Manasseh humbled himself before the LORD. Moved by the sincerity of his prayer, the LORD showed him favor and restored him to Jerusalem. Manasseh’s remarkable conversion reminds us that no matter how far one has fallen, God’s mercy remains available to all who humbly turn to Him.
