David summons all the officials of Israel to Jerusalem and reminds them that it was the LORD who raised him up to be king over Israel, and while it was in his heart to build the LORD a temple, his son Solomon would be the one to build the temple (vv. 1-7).

But David charges Solomon to remember that obedience (vv. 9-10) and being strong and courageous because of the LORD’s presence would give him success (vv. 20-21). We would do well to remember ourselves that we as followers of Jesus do not rely upon our own ability for success, but in trusting and following God.
