Psalm 89:38–52 shifts from celebrating God's covenant faithfulness to expressing deep anguish over what appears to be His rejection of David and the collapse of his kingdom. The psalmist describes the humiliation and suffering of God's people and questions how these circumstances can be reconciled with the promises God previously made. Despite his confusion and grief, he continues appealing to God's faithfulness and concludes the psalm with an expression of praise.

There will be seasons when our circumstances seem to contradict what we believe God has promised, leaving us confused about His plans and purposes. In those moments, we can bring our honest questions before Him while continuing to trust that His faithfulness extends beyond what we can presently see or understand.
