“For my iniquities have gone over my head, like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me” (v4). The psalmist admitted that his sins had brought terrible trouble into his life. He was broken, hurting, and sorry for what he had done (v3,18). Instead of defending himself or justifying himself (v14), he brought the “heavy burden” of his life to the Lord and asked for mercy (v1). “But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer” (v15).

“Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!” (v22). When we turn to him in repentance, acknowledging our desperate need, the Lord is quick to forgive and bring healing to our hearts.
