“And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and ... they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay” (v4). Those seeking healing for their brokenness, like the paralytic and his friends, were so drawn to Jesus that they took apart a roof. Like Levi leaving behind his job (v14), they did everything possible to get close to the One who spoke with love and authority. Others, convinced they were righteous, focused on purity codes and the Law (v6,16) and ignored the Savior.
“We never saw anything like this!” (v12). When we are honest about our needs and weaknesses, we do everything possible to be with Jesus, the One who can forgive, comfort, and heal us.
