In prophecy, style points don’t count. King Ahab of Israel wanted Ramoth-Gilead that was under the control of Syria and invited Jehoshaphat to join in taking it. Jehoshaphat foolishly agreed before asking of God. Ahab brought out 400 lying prophets to affirm it was. Zedekiah their leader even illustrated it with bull’s horns made of iron.

Jehoshaphat knew this circus was not of God and asked for another prophet. Under pressure, Macaiah was called, and spoke God’s word of Ahab’s coming death. Angrily, Ahab threw him in prison. There was war, the prophecy was fulfilled and Ahab died. Real prophets speak truth; all others are not to be heard or tolerated.
