“This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him” (v11). John tells us that Jesus’ signs were done in front of everyone, but only some understood and believed. At first, only His mother and some servants knew He had turned water into wine, but then “his disciples” believed. When He kicked out those who had been using the Temple for their own profit, some who saw it “believed in his name” (v23). Others wanted another “sign” to prove His authority (v18).
Disciples are those who see Jesus’ signs and believe “the Scripture” and “the word” He speaks (v22). They follow Him, even when His message contradicts all the powers of the world.
